As'salaamu alaykum my dear sisters, I pray this blog finds you all in the best of health and eeman (ameen). Today's blog is about Mental Math which means-calculations that's done in ones head without the use of pencil, paper, calculators or other aids. I choose this topic because my 8th grader is and has been for sometime struggling with math. It seems no matter how many programs I've tried with her it works for the moment, but soon leaves once she figures out the problem. I finally said enough is enough you can't just keep skating by. Just the other day I was going through my facebook page and put in the search box Muslim homeschooling to see what other sisters was saying about math mashaa'Allah I came across a sisters page where she had posted some information about the abacus. I said to myself why didn't I think of that long time ago. This was one of my favorite tools growing up doing math, but you know what I figure just like everything else time change. I called my daughter in and had her take a look at some YouTube videos on the abacus to see if she would be willing to give it a try and she agree alhumduliliah we are on our way.
The next step was to find a abacus so I searched google and found the Japanese ababus at amazon and we was so excited. As for my two youngest I will be going to Wal-Mart and getting theirs inshaa'Allah the same one I used when I was in school. Inshaa'Allah make dua for me and my family that we become successful in math ameen.

Happy Counting!
